As discussed in other entries (Menu Item Image feature and Global Tab Options) users can choose to display Menu Item Images to showcase individual recipes on their scheduled menus.
In order to provide a customer with a consistent experience using this feature, all Image file sizes should be the same (when possible). However, based on the fact that users can now define a window size and then fit images to the window regardless of the actual image size, it should be easier for operations to provide this consistent experience.
If images are sized differently (yet the aspect ratio is the same), set the window size to match the most common size, then be sure to select the Fit Image to Window option using the checkbox. This will ensure that all images appear to be the same size. Even though images may be sized differently, the aspect ratio of the image plays an even greater role in terms of a consistent user experience.
Aspect Ratio defines the relation ship between the Width and Height of the image file, common aspect ratios for photography are 4:3 and 16:9 (there are other aspect ratios in addition to these:
Note: If an operation has a library of image files that contain a mix of aspect ratios, then the window size should be defined using the largest dimension for both Width and Height (based on the available images) and the Fit Image to Window should NOT be selected (the checkbox should be unchecked). For example if you have one image that is 1024:768 (4:3) and a different image that is 1280x720 (16:9), then the window size should be set to: 1280 Width and 768 Height. Defining the window in this manner will allow both images to be seen without any type of deformity or cropping.
To help an operation make a decision on the how images should be sized, here are some examples of common image sizes.
Small: 240 Width x 180 Height
Medium: 500 Width x 375 Height
Large: 1024 Width x 768 Height
