Spice Conversions

In the Global Recipe program, there is a conversion option for the ingredient amount if the ingredient has a recipe unit of pound or quart. Spices would be a good example of an ingredient with a recipe unit of a LB, but used in a recipe in a smaller measure, for example, a teaspoon.

To use this feature, the number of teaspoons in a LB should be entered for the ingredient in the Global Inventory program. Click here to see conversions for common spices.

Sample Spice Conversions for Recipe Writing

If the inventory item has a conversion on file, enter the ingredient amount, whole numbers and/or valid fractions in units of G=Gallon, Q=Quart, P=Pint, C=Cup, TB=Tbl, T=Tsp.

For example, 1 1/2C 3TB 2T. The program converts this measurement into parts of a pound.

The program also will allow the ingredient amount to be entered in pounds, ounces and fractions of an ounce. For example, for 2LBs 3 1/2 ounces, enter 2 3½ and the program displays the equivalent decimal value of the LB to be 2.188 LB.

The program also allows a conversion option for inventory items with a recipe unit of quart. Enter the ingredient amount in whole numbers and/or valid fractions, in units of gallons (G), quarts (Q) , pints (P), cups (C), tablespoons (TB) or teaspoons (T).

For example, enter 1 1/2C 3T and the program displays the equivalent decimal value of the quart to be .3907 QT.
