Teaspoon to Pound Conversion
This feature allows the user that is writing recipes to enter a teaspoon (for example) amount of a spice and the system will calculate the amount to a decimal part of a LB. See the setup appendix for a reference chart for the most common spices.
To determine the Tsp\Lb conversion for an item not on the list follow this simple guide:
- Weigh an empty 1-Cup measuring cup.
- Fill that same cup with 1 Cup of the product that you want to calculate the conversion for.
- Weigh the filled cup.
- Subtract the weight of the empty cup from the full cup weight, this will give you the Tare Weight (the weight of the product only).
- Next convert the Tare Weight to decimal parts of a pound
- Then divide the number 48 by the Tare Weight (now in decimals).
- The result is the Tsp\Lb conversion for that product.
Example:
-
Empty Cup = 2oz
-
Weight of Cup and Product = 9 ¾ oz.
-
(9 ¾ oz – 2 oz) = 7 ¾ oz.
-
7 ¾ oz ÷ 16 = .484375
-
48 ÷ .484375 = 99.09677
-
99.09677 is the Tsp\Lb Conversion for the product.
If the item does not require a conversion, just leave blank, by entering a zero at the prompt for this field 0 = None.
TSP/LB Conversion Tool
Access the conversion tool from the Tools Menu. This tool can calculate the TSP/LB conversion using the same logic as detailed above.
- Enter the weight of the container and it's contents
- Select a unit of measure and quantity for that unit (e.g. 1 cup)
- Enter the weight of the container
- Click Calculate to calculate the TSP/LB conversion
- Click Apply to save the calculation to the Global Inventory TSP/LB conversion field
Note: Weight Values can be entered in LB and OZ using decimal or fractional amounts, spaces would indicate value separation.
Entering 1 2 would be interpreted as 1 lb and 2 oz
Entering 1 1/2 would be interpreted as 1 lb and .5 oz
